Ten years ago this fall (October 18, 2008) on a lovely Saturday evening in Las Vegas we were wed. It doesn't seem possible that almost a decade has passed since that memorable night, which carried on well into the wee hours...
What better way to celebrate this achievement than to get some friends and family back together for a weekend in the desert to renew our vows and start another decade together?
"Did you get married in one of those little chapels on the Strip?" people often ask when they learn we were married in Vegas. As some will remember, we were married at the JW Marriott in Summerlin, about 15 minutes west of the Strip, near Sue's parents' house. But this time around, we thought we would do something a little bit different.
Something involving Blue Suede Shoes, perhaps...
Vows
We will be renewing our vows, in true Vegas style, with Elvis at the Graceland Wedding Chapel on the Las Vegas Strip (619 S. Las Vegas Boulevard). The Renewal Ceremony starts promptly at 5 p.m., so we are requesting guests to arrive no later than 4:45 p.m., on the evening of Friday, October 19.
Dress will be casual, shorts are fine, if not encouraged. We are going for a tropical, beachy kind of vibe, so if you have something that fits that mode, go for it! Basically, wear whatever makes you comfortable.
The reception will be held on the following afternoon, Saturday, October 20, at Sue's parents home in Summerlin at 6 p.m. (The address will be e-mailed to those who confirm.)
Everyone will have the chance to dust off the golden pipes and belt out a few Elvis tunes of their own during the Karaoke portion of the evening. Even though a few of us are professional singers, please do not be intimidated.
Sue's mom will be making her world-famous potstickers, and there will be plenty of other light snacks and adult beverages.
Hotel
During the weekend (starting Thursday, October 18 through Sunday, October 21) we will be staying at The Mirage on the Las Vegas Strip. You are welcome to join us here for all or part of our stay.
